Berne, Ind.- Even in spite of not winning either of the doubles matches on Thursday, the Bellmont Braves Girls Tennis squad swept the singles contests and picked up a 3-2 win against South Adams in Berne.
With the win the Braves improve to 3-3 on the season.
Players were left battling windy conditions, but it was the Braves who prevailed over both the weather and the opposition.
The visitors earned all three points from singles wins.
Senior’s Olivia Selking and Ava Kinsey as well as Sophomore Leila Jin all posted straight set wins for the Braves.
The script was flipped in doubles play, however.
The South Adams combination of Chloe Summersett and Lexie McKibben knocked off Isabelle Ortiz and Marisol Jackson in three sets.
After Ortiz and Jackson won the opening set 6-4, Summersett and McKibeen rallied by winning both the second and third 6-2.
It was the only match that would require the extra set to determine a winner.
Maggie Nussbaum and Malina Mawhorr of South Adams cruised to a win in their match. They defeated Lucie McIntire and Lillian Jin 6-0, 6-2.
But the victories by the doubles teams proved to only be consolation for South Adams as they were not enough to overcome the losses they sustained in singles.
Both teams will have an off day on Friday before taking the court in Fort Wayne on Saturday morning.
Bellmont will face Fort Wayne Bishop Luers at Swinney Park and South Adams will partake in the Allen-Adams Challenge to be held at Kreager Park.
