The first day of the Al Smith Classic is a grueling test of endurance and strength and the reward for advancing to the second day is having to do it all over again.
With arguably the top two teams in the state of Indiana, Crown Point and Center Grove, advancing a combined 24 wrestlers, it was a tough day for the other 30 teams who were fighting for the rest of the 88 placement spots.
Three Bellmont wrestlers navigated the opening day and survived with Gavin Davis the only Brave to remain unscathed, reaching the semifinals at 152 by beating a two-time state qualifier, Beau Brabender of Mishawaka, in the quarterfinals.
