Adam's County Courthouse

One of the most polarizing political debates has moved into its next chapter as the Supreme Court has overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. The decision upheld the right for a woman to choose to have an abortion and limited government restrictions on the topic. In recent years, the topic has been intensely debated and on Tuesday, June 24th the Supreme Court dissolved the ruling, therefore allowing the states to make their own abortion laws.

At this time, abortion is still legal in the state of Indiana if it meets certain requirements. Abortions must take place before the 20th week of pregnancy and anybody under the age of 18 must have consent from their parent or legal guardian. Public funds cannot be used unless the woman’s life is in danger, the woman must receive counseling aimed directly at influencing her decision and according to Indiana law she must be told that, "human physical life begins when a human ovum is fertilized by a human sperm."
