Wendell J. Seaman

    Wendell J. Seaman, 92, of Decatur, died Thursday, December 6, 2011, in Adams Memorial Hospital. His death was unexpected and followed a brief illness.
    He was born on April 29, 1918 in Wells County to Luchus and Dora Hartup Seaman.
  He married Harriet Ruth Clark on December 15, 1939 in Markle, Indiana and she survives.
   Wendell retired in 1977 from the Central Soya plant in Decatur (now Bunge North America) after 30 years of service in the research department. He also was in business with Art Beeler of Decatur as they owned and operated four chicken houses in Monmouth for more than 12 years.
    Wendell was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Decatur and belonged to Masonic Lodge 571 in Decatur for more than 60 years.
    He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, swimming and biking.
    Surviving are his wife for more than 71 years, Ruth; one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Ann) Bieberich of rural Decatur; two granddaughters: Mrs. Marlin (Lisa) Scheumann and Mrs. Sam (Lana) Griffiths, both of Decatur; four great-grandchildren: Mrs. Adam (Emily) Minnich, Natalie Scheumann, Kaylee Scheumann, and Benton Griffiths; and one great-great-grandson, Clayton Minnich.
    He was preceded in death by one sister, Faye High, and three brothers: Delbert, Everett, and Waldo Seaman.
    Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in St. Mark’s United Methodist Church at Decatur, with Rev. Michael Heinbaugh officiating.
    Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery.
    Visiting hours will be from 2-3 p.m. Saturday in Porter Auditorium at Woodcrest Retirement Community in Decatur, from 5-8 p.m. Saturday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home of Decatur, and from 3-4 p.m. Sunday at the church.
    Preferred memorials are to the food pantry at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
