Streets to be closed starting today

Staff Writer

Officials from the Buckeye Pipe Line Co. announced on Tuesday that, starting today, September 19, and lasting until perhaps September 29, Washington Street between Walnut Street and North Second Street will be closed to all through traffic, but open to local traffic for residents in that area, as repairs are made to a damaged fuel pipeline.
It was revealed at Tuesday night's Decatur City Council meeting that around 1,100 feet of the eight-inch diameter pipeline will be replaced.
The company's statement says, "Buckeye will keep city personnel apprised of pipeline repair work and progress.
"This road closure is in the spirit of public safety and every effort will be made to minimize disruption to the community.
"Thank you for your patience as pipeline repair work moves forward."
