South Adams jumps into matt poll

    Bellmont moved from ninth in last week's state wrestling poll to eighth this week, and South Adams entered the poll for the first time at No. 19.
    The Braves' 3-2 showing in the "Main Event" super duals at Bellmont over the weekend helped Bellmont remain in the top 10. The Braves defeated defending state champ and then sixth-rated Mishawaka Saturday, and also knocked off No. 14 Bloomington South, which dropped out of the poll.
    South Adams, now 21-0, earlier this season had a big win  over New Castle and also defeated Homestead. The Starfires won the ECIC Tourney at Jay County and have been unbeaten in every meet they've been in this season.
    Earlier, South Adams was voted No. 1 in a Class A poll put out by The Indiana State Wrestling Coaches Association has been pushing for class competition in the Team State Tournament. Right now, all teams compete in one class, and South Adams is in the Jay Sectional with perennial champ Bellmont.
    Crown Point remained No. 1 in the poll while Perry Meridian, which went 5-0 at Bellmont, stayed at No. 2. Penn, which also went 5-0 and defeated Bellmont Saturday, jumped from No. 7 to No. 4. Defending state champ Mishawaka slipped to No. 9.
    Carroll, the main competition for Bellmont in the Jan. 22 NHC Tourney, moved up three spots to No. 14 with a 14-1 record. The Braves defeated the Chargers in a close meet a few weeks back.
