Pocket Park naming ceremony is a go

The name of the park at the corner of 2nd and Monroe streets in downtown Decatur will be revealed at a “Party in the Park” from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, rain or shine.
With rain in the forecast for Saturday, Decatur Community Coordinator Melissa Norby on Thursday said officials would make a decision today whether the event will go forward as planned.
"We decided we're going ahead with it," Norby said this morning. "Even if we have to call it short, like if it's pouring down rain, we're going to at least have the dedication."
More than 270 suggested names for the park were submitted from current Decatur residents, former residents and from as far away as Canada.
American Legion Post 43 will kick off the celebration with the dedication of the flag in the park, with the unveiling of the name by the winner to follow. Visitors of the park will receive a free afternoon snack.
The individual who named the park will receive $200 in gift cards from Decatur-area businesses.
