Jets and Stars set to take mat tonight

Ten experienced wrestlers dot the lineup as Class A No. 1 Adams Central opens its season at home Thursday with ACAC foe Leo.
The Jets of coach Doug Schultz will have only one freshman in the lineup, 106-pounder Tucker Miller, while five seniors give the Jets a veteran look.
Former state streeter Cody Walburn (90-11) will start his final season at 126 for the Jets, while Ben Pfister, state rated at 182 pounds, will open at 195 pounds for his second and last campaign for Central.
Andy Oliver (sophomore) and senior Adam Cook both return in the lightweights, with Oliver at 113 and Cook at 120 pounds. Other returning seniors are: Zac Yoder at 145, and Alex Bollenbacher at 182. Senior Josh Schwartz is a first-year starter at 132, and junior Mason Call holds down the 170-pound slot for the first time.
Junior Joe Fuelling is back at heavyweight for AC and experienced junior Derek Ellinger (60-25) is back at 138 pounds. Sophomore Luke Liter returns as a starter and will go at 152 for Schultz.
Sophomore Isiah Bollenbacher will open as the 220-pounder. Junior Kaine Luginbill moves up from the jayvee squad and will open as the 160-pounder.
“We still have a few guys hoping drop down a class, and that might open up a weight, but this is where we’re at today,” said coach Schultz.

The Jets went unbeaten in the ACAC last year and also took the loop tourney.
Central will travel to the Northwestern Duals on Saturday.

BERNE—South Adams will fill 13 of the 14 weight classes in its season opener Thursday vs. Garrett at the Stardome.
The only class without a competitor will be the 195-pound division.
Veteran coach Eric Myers posted his lineup Wednesday morning and four freshmen will start for the Starfires, rated No. 2 in Class A. Brayden Myers will start at 106 pounds while Gabe Conner at 152, Kody Coates at 160 and Gabe Schwartz at 170 will varsity wrestlers in their prep mat debuts.
The Starfires suffered a setback when returning semistate wrestler Shea Pyle, a senior, was lost for the season with a torn labrum. He wrestled at 160 last year.
“Our practices have been great and our kids are really working hard,” said Myers.
The Starfires will host the annual Spencer Haworth Memorial Wrestling Invitational Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. Delta, Eastbrook, Jay County, Union City and Woodlan will be present for the super dual.
Standout LJ Moser, a senior, will be at 126 for the Starfires, and Mavrick Morningstar returns after missing last year. The senior will go at 220 pounds on Thursday.
Sawyer Miller, fourth at the IHSAA State Meet last year at 106, will start at 113 for the Starfires and sophomore Matt Nussbaum will be at 120. Junior Eric Pimentel will be at 132, sophomore Boaz Marbach at 138 and junior Austin Grabau at 145.
