I&M reports 85% of power restored

    As of Wednesday evening, Indiana Michigan Power reported repair crews have restored power to 85 percent of customers who lost service during Tuesday’s ice storm and continues work to restore the remaining 4,200 customers by midnight Wednesday.
    These are the estimated times of restoration by area:
    • Southwest Michigan: 3 p.m. Wednesday;
    • Fort Wayne and northeast Indiana: 8 p.m. Wednesday;
    • South Bend/Elkhart: 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.
    Customers should be aware that high winds are forecast for tonight and could lead to additional
outages.
    About 28,000 customers lost service Tuesday morning as a result of the wind-fueled ice storms that struck northern Indiana and southwest Michigan.
    As of 9 p.m. Tuesday, approximate outage counts by state and county were:

INDIANA: 2,550
    • St. Joseph County: 1,000;
    • Elkhart County: 650;
    • Allen: 550;
    • Noble: 75;
    • DeKalb: 275.

MICHIGAN: 1,650
    • Berrien: 1,425;
    • Cass: 100;
    • St. Joseph: 100.
    I&M urges the public to be cautious of downed power lines as well as trees that could be partially damaged and at risk of dropping limbs or falling. Downed wires should always be considered energized and dangerous. Keep away from them and anything they could be touching. Watch for wires down that could be touching fences or hidden under tree limbs or debris. Stay away and call I&M at 800-311-4634 to report any downed wires.
