Hoosiers will need to be patient, make adjustments

Staff Writer

These are trying times for many Americans, and Hoosiers have not gone unscathed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Restrictions on Hoosier businesses and restaurants in an effort to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus have caused hardship for many local residents. We at the Daily Democrat are not immune to these trials; however, we will continue publishing a daily newspaper for our readers as long as we are able.
At this time, many of our staff are working remotely or working shortened, varying hours to limit social interactions. The cancelations and closures of school and sporting events, local meetings and more have further limited our ability to provide extensive local coverage.
It is with these issues in mind we are taking measures to protect our staff and customers, while continuing to provide the daily news our readers depend on. Due to the lack of community events, we will temporarily remove the Opinion and Community pages from our publication. Furthermore, we will suspend production of the Berne Shopping News and will no longer publish The Extra.
Should the time come our printing press closes, we will continue to publish the Decatur Daily Democrat online and offer it free of charge to our readers.
We fully anticipate a return to our normal publication size once this crisis has passed. We thank you for your patience and understanding during these difficult times. We live in an amazing community, and I believe the residents of Adams County will band together as we always have to help one another through this crisis.
