No one better fit the time-worn description of dynamite in small packages than Fred Schott. The guy stood about 5-7, maybe 5-8, and on a football field was as hard as the girders holding up a stadium. He wasn't interested in running around or avoiding an opponent.
Fred, who died the other day at the age of 81, did an interesting thing after his senior football season at Decatur High School. He became a cheerleader. Yep, honest; a cheerleader. You know, that thing the girls do, shaking their pom-pons, jumping up and down, yelling at the fans in hopes of generating excitement.
