A new year is bringing a new look to the Decatur Daily Democrat, as longtime sports reporter Dane Fuelling has been named the new Sports Editor.
“I am excited to see what Dane will bring to our local sports coverage,” said Editor in Chief Jannaya Andrews in announcing the change. “Dane has provided exceptional coverage for our readers for many years, and I feel confident he will bring that same enthusiasm and dedication to his new position.”
A graduate of Bellmont High School, Fuelling has a Bachelor’s Degree in German from Butler University and has been a teacher at Bellmont for the past 12 years. He has been a sports correspondent for the Democrat for the past four years, hosts a radio show on WZBD, and calls games for football, wrestling, baseball and softball.
“I look forward to sharing my passion for sports and specifically, high school athletics, with the readers of the DDD,” said Fuelling. “No one in Adams County is more passionate about our teams and our athletes than I. To follow in the footsteps of legends like Nellie Clark and Jim Hopkins is a huge honor and I am excited about being a part of this newspaper.”
Fuelling enjoys farming with his father on the family’s farm, and enjoys construction and carpentry work during the summer months. He recently renovated and added on to the family homestead, which was originally built in 1890.
He is an avid snooker, IndyCar, tennis and baseball fan and enjoys fastpitch softball during the summer. He also enjoys Jimmy Buffet and Bob Marley, James Bond movies and traveling to foreign countries.
He and his wife, Jennifer, have four children, Khloe, August, Eva, Marko, and are members of St. Peter (Fuelling) Lutheran Church.
Former Democrat Sports Editor Chris Tulley will remain on-staff at the paper as a correspondent.
