A LaPorte County Sheriff's Department report said Strauss was arrested without incident at his home in Michigan City on Thursday afternoon. He was jailed under a $35,000 bond.
“The arrest is the result of an investigation that was initiated after a complaint of an inappropriate relationship between the former educator and a former student was received by the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office,” a department news release said.
Strauss resigned at South Adams on October 3. “Mr. Strauss informed me that he is under investigation in relation to his previous employment in another county,” SA Superintendent Scott Litwiller said in a statement at the time. “The investigation does not involve his work for or presence in South Adams Schools.
It was the second sudden resignation to rock the South Adams system since the start of the current school year. Former Athletic Director Mike Pries resigned  August 11. His resignation came amid revelations that Paul David Baker, 48, a friend of Pries, was a SA volunteer girls basketball coach who was required to register as a sexually violent predator had been arrested.
After Strauss resigned, South Adams Middle School Prinicpal Jeff Rich was named by the school board to also assume the duties of elementary school principal.
Strauss became the South Adams Elementary principal prior to the 2010-2011 school year, replacing Litwiller when the latter was named superintendent.
Strauss had left South Central Elementary in Union Mills in LaPorte County to take the South Adams post.
