Ceremony to hand over Habitat keys

Staff Writer

The official handover of the latest Habitat for Humanity house to its owners will take place at 7 p.m. Friday.
The house is on Colonial Court at the south side of Berne and will be the residence of Kevin and Karla Gallagher and their teenage son and daughter. The Gallagher family has been living in Linn Grove.
The new dwelling has cost almost $60,000 and the Gallaghers will pay back to the local Habitat organization only the amount the home cost to complete in order to gain full ownership. Habitat for Humanity does not charge interest.
Members of the county Habitat board of directors will attend the event, at which the keys and a copy of the Bible will be presented to the Gallagher family.
There will also be the announcement of the winner of a $500 college scholarship to a member of the 2014-15 Building Trades class, sponsored by Adams Central High School. The BT class has done almost all of the work to build the last two Habitat homes in Berne as a partner with the local Habitat group.
Refreshments will be provided by Habitat for Humanity.
