Braves rated No. 10 in state poll

    Unbeaten Bellmont, which has blasted away the opposition in its last four games with 55 runs and 60 hits, is rated 10th in the most recent 3A Coaches Baseball Poll.
    Adams Central, off to a 2-3 start, has the 12th most votes in the 2A poll.
    There are five teams in the NHC gaining poll recognition. New Haven, coached by former Bellmonter Dave Bischoff, is tied for the eighth spot in the 3A poll with an 8-3 records. Norwell is 14th overall at 6-2 in 3A. In 4A, a talented Fort Wayne Carroll team is 7-1 and rated No. 7 in the state and 8-0 DeKalb is ranked 12th in 4A.
    Another area team, Huntington North, is rated No. 9 in 4A.
    The Braves are off to their hot start, including a recent 19-4 win over previously ranked Fort Wayne Concordia, under a new coach, Ben Fawbush, who is a long time assistant coach.
    "We are hitting the cover off of the ball," said Fawbush, noting the .434 team batting average.
    "In the last four games we have had 13, 14, 15, and 18 hits respectively. These guys know what they are capable of and they are proving it."
    Bellmont is led by the 14 runs and 16 RBI of Landon Baker (.579, 3 homers). Brian Hakes is at .571, Matt Stidam .643, Will Busse .474 and Nick Fuelling at .455.
    New Palestine tops the 3A poll with an 8-0 records with 9-0 Kankakee Valley rated second. Bellmont is tied for No. 10 with Mount Vernon-Fortville, Vincennes Lincoln, and Yorktown (7-2).
    Forest Park leads the 2A poll with a 7-1 record. Bishop Luers is rated 13th with a 1-6 mark. Central has beaten Luers the past two years at sectional. The Jets are defending sectional champs in 2A.
