2 killed in Saturday morning crash


The Adams County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a head-on collision that claimed the lives of two people in Adams County Saturday morning.
According to a news release by Sheriff Dan Mawhorr, the accident occurred at 11:51 a.m. when a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze, operated by an unidentified female, was traveling southbound on U.S. 27, near C.R. 350S, at a high rate of speed. The driver of the Cruze attempted to pass another southbound vehicle, crashing head-on into a northbound 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck, operated by an unidentified male driver.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. The names of those involved will be released once the families have been notified.
The Berne Police Department, Geneva Police Department, Indiana State Police, Berne Fire Department and Adams County EMS assisted at the scene.
Mawhorr said speed and improper passing are believed to be factors in the crash.
This accident remains under investigation.
