The annual Kekionga Greenway Gallop 5k commenced once again on Sunday with Kevin Heckman winning the overall title and Annie Boocher earning the top female time overall.
Heckman blazed by the competition with a time of 17:18.8, a full 45 seconds ahead of second place finisher John Schnieders (18:03.3) who had the top time amongst the Male Masters' division.
The Bellmont Squaws won the cross country invitational they hosted Wednesday night in a nine-team field and junior sensation Bailey Beery easily captured first place with a strong 19:28.3 time, but other than that a lot of questions remained after the meet was over.
The Squaws placed their top five runners in 19th or better position out of a field of 57 runners (six schools competed as teams while three others had incomplete teams) and the final statistic sheets showed them to be in the area of 41 points.
Concordia Lutheran backed up their number one ranking in class 3A on Tuesday night besting the fifth-ranked Bellmont Squaws in four sets at the Teepee 25-23, 23-25, 18-25, 12-25.
The Squaws took the electric first set despite trailing 20-16 at one point ending on a 9-3 run to take their only set of the match. Neither team led by more than four points in the first two sets at any time and in the first, the Squaws built a 9-7 lead taking four of their points off of Cadet miscues.
