Decatur Mayor John Schultz on Friday will hand deliver to Stellar Communities officials in Indianapolis the City of Decatur’s Strategic Community Investment Plan, a plan which — if it results in a Stellar grant — would see spending and investment of $39 million in the city over a four-year period.
That massive spending plan would kick into gear only if the city receives the Stellar grant, likely to be upwards of $15 million and would include a match of some $2 million from the city. The remainder of the funds would come from various sources, including private investments, foundations, etc.
Included in the plan are several “complimentary projects,” such as the new city hall and police station, development of Pocket Park (2nd and Monroe streets), funds spent on the historic depot off 7th Street, a new superior court building to be constructed by the county, and several others.
