Helen C. Scheiner, Decatur, passed peacefully Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Adams Heritage in Monroeville, surrounded by family and friends, after 96 years of life on the farm.
She was born July 2, 1917, in Decatur to the late Victor L. and Anna L. (Hackman) Ulman.
She married Oscar J. Scheiner, the love of her life, Oct. 24, 1952; he passed away March 5, 1991.
Helen was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church and its Rosary Society. She worked as a nurse’s aid for Adams Memorial Hospital and was a hard-working farmer.
Surviving are three children, Carol (Pat Young) Vincent of Decatur, Catherine (Frank) LaBarbera of Sun City West, Ariz. and Edward (Marnie) Scheiner of Renton, Wash.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, David Scheiner; four brothers, Fred, Clarence, Robert and Herman Ulman; and a sister, Frances Schurger.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Philip DeVolder presiding.
Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday at the St. Mary’s Parish Hall, with a reciting of the Holy Rosary at 10:30 a.m.
Preferred memorials may be made to Family Hospice or St. Joseph Catholic School.
