Eugene R. "Hugo" Murchland, 90, Decatur, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014, at his residence.
He was born Wednesday, June 27, 1923, in Dixon, the son of the late William B. and Amelia M. A. (Zimmerman) Murchland.
He married Mary Jane Worden April 13, 1947, in the Salem United Church of Christ; she survives after 66 years. Hugo served his country in the United States Air Force during WWII. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Magley where he served on several church boards. He was a member of the American Legion Post 43 of Decatur. Hugo was a graduate of Monroeville High School. He retired in 1985 from Fruehauf with 43 years of service. Surviving are two daughters, Donna Nash of Craigville and Beverly Murchland of Fort Wayne; three sons, Max Murchland of Markle, Kim David Murchland of Kimmel and Dean Murchland of Las Vegas; twin sister, Jean Renier of Monroeville; a brother, William Murchland, Jr. of Parowan, Utah; 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Preceding Hugo in death was a son, Gale Murchland; five sisters, Lela Siders, Edith Siders, Samantha Waterman, Lula Mull and Glenna Murchland; and two brothers, Paul Murchland and Olen "Tony" Murchland. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Salem United Church of Christ, Magley.
Interment will follow in the Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors to be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 12-4 p.m., Sunday, in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church Monday. Preferred memorials are to Adams County Community Foundation - Heart Fund or Adams County Community Foundation - Cancer Fund.
