Arnulfo V. Garcia, 77, Decatur, died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
Arnulfo was born April 7, 1936, in Crystal City, Texas, to the late Bacilio and Maria Apolinar (Venegas) Garcia. He married his wife of 59 years, Genoveva Hernandez Sept. 26, 1954; she survives.
Arnulfo was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He retired from Decatur Casting in 1993 with 32 years of service. Arnulfo and Genoveva co-owned and operated La Gloria Mexican store on Elm St. in Decatur for 15 years.
He is survived by four sons, Arnulfo (Jody) Garcia Jr. of Monroe, Santiago “Jimmy” Garcia of Auburn, Hector (Tammy A.) Garcia and Mike (Tammy L.) Garcia, both of Decatur; two daughters, Janie (Tim) LaBoube and Maria (Tom) Weddle, both of Decatur; two brothers, Pedro (Maria) Garcia of Decatur and Jesus (Carmen) Garcia of Eagle Pass, Texas; a brother-in-law, Jose Covarrubias of Eagle Pass; five sisters, Armandina Rios, Lupe (Gustavo) Landin, Sylvia (Samuel) Salazar, all of Eagle Pass, Mary (Robert) Fowler of San Antonio and Herminia (Tomas) Aguilar of Weiser, Idaho; a sister-in-law, Maria Esther Garcia of Decatur; 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bacilio and Juan “Joe” Garcia; a sister, Felipita Covarrubias; and sister-in-law, Juanita Garcia.
Prayer Service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father David Voors officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 8 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home.
Preferred memorials are to Woodcrest Nursing Center.
