Robert E. Lovellette, 80, Decatur, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Adams Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
He was born Sunday, July 23, 1933, in Decatur, the son of the late Harry D. and Pearl M. (Fuelling) Lovellette.
He married Ruby J. James Dec. 17, 1955, in Willshire, Ohio; she passed away June 30, 2004.
Robert served his country in the United States Navy from 1952-1956.
He attended Union Chapel United Methodist Church in rural Decatur. Robert was a member of the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur and a 20 year member of its Color Guard. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 1311, the Eagles Aerie 2653 and the General Electric Quarter Century Club in Fort Wayne. He enjoyed fishing and rebuilding engines.
Robert retired from General Electric, Fort Wayne, in 1993 with 42 years of service.
He is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Jim Ranly) Wefel and Lynn (Mark) Roeder, both of Decatur; two brothers, Donald (Nell) Lovellette of Syracuse and Ronald (Patricia) Lovellette of Roanoke; four sisters, Susie (John) Nuttle of Ossian, Rose Lovellette, Patricia Lovellette and Bonnie Dabbs, all of Fort Wayne; and five grandchildren, Sarah Bailey, Zach, Jessica and Michaela Roeder and Lee Wefel.
Preceding Robert in death was a daughter, Susan Bailey, June 20, 2000; a granddaughter, Danielle Roeder; two brothers, Melvin and James Lovellette; and one sister, Bernette "Sally" Dunman.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur with Pastor Ed Karges officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery with Military Graveside Services to be conducted by American Legion Post 43. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m., Saturday and one hour prior to the service on Sunday, both at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to Adams County Community Foundation Cancer Fund or the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
