Gene R. Williamson, 75, Decatur, passed away Friday, Nov. 8, 2013, at Adams Memorial Hospital after being stricken at home.
Gene was born Saturday, April 9, 1938, in Decatur to the late Earl N. 'Dutch' and Helen May (Brown) Williamson. He married Helen M Roth Aug. 30, 1957, in Adams County; she survives.
Gene was a member of the Decatur American Legion Post 43, Decatur Moose Lodge 1311, Eagles Lodge, a former member of the Jaycees. He was a former Monroe Little league coach, officer in the Adams Central Athletic Booster Club and a former board member of the Phelps Dodge Credit Union.
Gene retired in 2000 from Phelps Dodge, Fort Wayne, after 44 years of service. Following his retirement, he became a handyman to many in the community, drawing on his experience working at Phelps Dodge.
Survivors are two daughter, Joy (John) Heller, Preble and Tammy (Barry) Ratcliff, Decatur; a son, Barry (Candace) Williamson, Decatur; a brother, Jerry D. Williamson, Decatur; a sister, Cheryll (Tom) Eyanson, Decatur; a sister-in-law, Donna Williamson, Decatur; eight grandchildren, B.J. Ratcliff, Brandy (Bret) Grover, Brooke Ratcliff, Jessie (Eric) Myers, Jeff Heller, Brian Williamson, Sara Williamson and Lance Williamson, three great-grandchildren, Max Myers, Brielle Grover and Brionna Grover.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman 'Butch' Williamson; and a sister-in-law, Judy Williamson.
Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday also at the funeral home with Pastor Ed Gebert officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Mt. Victory U.B. Church Good Samaritan Fund or American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
