Florence M. Berning, 92, Hoagland, passed away at 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013, at the Village of Heritage in Monroeville.
Florence was born Tuesday, April 26, 1921, in Mercer County, Ohio to the late Charles A. and Anna M. (Tegler) Siebert. She married the late Frederick W. Berning on Sept. 16, 1951, he passed away on Nov. 26, 2012.
Florence was a member of St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen, the Ladies Guild of the church and the Allen County Farm Bureau board where she served as a woman's leader. She was a homemaker and had worked at General Electric for four years. During World War II, Florence served in the Women's Army Corps where she was a physical training instructor and received training as a medical-surgical technician. She was honorably discharged for the United States Army WAC's.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine (Jim) McDonald of Tempe, Ariz.; three sons, Norman (Cindy) Berning and Roger Berning both of Hoagland and Dean Berning of Decatur; a sister, Annetta Siebert of Celina, Ohio; a brother, Paul J. Siebert of Celina; 15 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one step-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Walter, Irvin, Robert and Lee A. Siebert; four sisters, Louella Seddelmeyer, Esther Rasawehr, Bertha Waggoner and Wilhelmina Gambrell.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating.
Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery-Bingen with Military Graveside Services conducted by Adams County Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church-Bingen or Worship for Shut-ins.
