Two Bellmont High School products are back on the football field this season for Manchester University along with three former Heritage performers also play for the Spartans.
Wideout Lance Shifferly, a sophomore, has caught 13 passes for 122 yards in six games, averaging 9.4 yards per catch with a longest gain of 18 yards. The Bellmont product also has been credited with two tackles.
Another former Brave, Dan Hunter, a 6-4, 200-pound defensive lineman, has also seen considerable action. He has been credited with seven solo tackles, three tackles for 17 yards in total losses, one sack and two fumble recoveries in seven games.
As a freshman last season, Shifferly played in seven games with nine receptions for 98 yards and one touchdown. Hunter had nine tackles and two sacks in nine games last year.
Heritage products on the Spartans squad include senior quarterback Nick Williams, senior tight end Ryne Lehrman, and junior offensive lineman Josh Mitchell. Lehrman and Mitchell list Hoagland as their hometown.
In seven games, Williams has completed 77 of 152 passes for 905 yards and five touchdowns, with eight interceptions. Lehrman has three receptions for 29 yards while Mitchell has recorded 19 solo tackles, 9 assists and 1 blocked kick in seven games.
Also on the Manchester roster is Patrick Shafer, a senior kicker from Norwell who lists Ossian as his hometown.
After opening the season with four losses, the Spartans have won two of their last three, including a 42-13 triumph over Earlham last Saturday; they play at Mt. St. Joseph this Saturday.
