Directors, officers and staff of First Bank of Berne launched balloons on Wednesday to celebrate the beginning of construction of a new banking center at 222 Heritage Trail in Berne. Each balloon contained a note explaining where the balloon lifted off, and anyone who finds a balloon was invited to write or call the bank to let them know how far the balloon traveled. Joining bank employees were the mayor, city officials and contractors.
While the majority of the employees from the main office of the bank in downtown Berne will be moving to the new operations center, there will still be a teller line and new accounts representative at the 102 W. Main Street building. Customers will be able to cash checks, make deposits and loan payments, and open a new account.
A new retail office for the bank will be at 168 W. Main St., where Family LifeCare is located. The building will also have an ATM machine for the convenience of downtown shoppers.
The new operations center will house loan operations, trust operations, IT staff, a call center and any support for branches, as well as deposit operations, accounting and marketing. Loan officers from the main office will move to the Berne branch on U.S. 27 after an addition to that building. In turn, Family LifeCare will consolidate its operation from two buildings to one at 102 W. Main Street.
