Bids were opened Tuesday afternoon by the Adams County Commissioners for a three-year lease of the 133 tillable acres of farmland owned by the county and located adjacent to County Road 200 E. Prior to opening the bids, Commissioner Kim Fruechte recused himself from the process due to familial connections to one of the bidders.
County Attorney Mark Burry initially opened the five submitted bids, reading off the names of the bidders and the amount per acre that they had bid on the lease. The submitted bids ranged from a low of $150 per acre by Andrew Schafer, Rockford, Ohio, to a high of $210 per acre by Craig Fruechte of Decatur. Other bids came from Matthew LaFontaine, Fort Wayne, $175 per acre; Tony LaFontaine, Decatur, $175 per acre; and Dan Buchan, Decatur, $180 per acre.
