INDIANAPOLIS—In a familiar place at Ben Davis, Adams Central's Lady Jets softball team tried for a second time to bring home a 2A state title but came up short against Indianapolis Scecina in a tight battle, 4-2.
In a virtual home game, the Lady Crusaders entered the contest after defeating the number one-ranked team in 2A, Evansville Mater Dei, by a 1-0 nothing score at the semi-state final.
The Lady Jets were winners over Wheeler to get to the finals, a place they had reached for the first time last season in a loss to South Putnam. Adams Central's magical run from last year was mirrored once again this season as the Lady Jets were underestimated at every turn earning another spot in the title game.
"We're really happy for these kids," AC coach Cary Blake stated after the game. "We were just trying to win a sectional. It seems like it just snowballs for these girls coming from the leadership of the core of seniors."
Coach Blake finishes his 19th season at the helm of the girls program at AC and the last two years are a culmination of a long time coming for the school. Before the state run last season, the Lady jets had not even won a sectional title.
"Right now they don't realize how bad the odds are to make it to the state game and they've made it down here twice. You have to be proud of them," praised the AC coach.
