A house fire that killed a Decatur man late Monday evening has been ruled accidental, but the investigation into the cause of that fire is still undetermined, according to Assistant Fire Chief Jim Hitchcock.
When firefighters responded to a reported fire at 10:43 p.m. Monday at the home of Ralph W. Cornely, 59, at 6242 N. Piqua Rd., they found Cornely unresponsive on the floor of the home, Hitchcock said this morning. Cornely was transported by ambulance to Adams Memorial Hospital where efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, according to a news release issued Adams County Coroner Leslie Cook.
Cook said an autopsy conducted Tuesday showed Cornely died as a result of smoke inhalation and thermal burns.
