Floyd I. McBride, 79, of Decatur, passed away March 26, 2013.
Floyd was the son of the late Lee Forrest McBride and the late Violet (Smitley) McBride.
He married Rochelle L. (Jones) Smitley; she survives in Decatur.
During the 1990’s Floyd went on four mission trips to Jamaica with the First Missionary Church, Berne. He was a member of the Decatur Moose Lodge 1311 for 50 years. Floyd was a graduate of Decatur High School Class of 1951. Floyd loved to play the harmonica and crochet afghans given to the Methodist Church for their Caring Cover Ministry.
He owned and operated McBride & Son Welding in Decatur. The business was started by Floyd’s grandfather, Ira McBride, and his father, Lee McBride, in 1946. The business is now owned and operated by Floyd’s son, Brad McBride, since 1984, when Floyd retired after 32 years.
Floyd and Rochelle have a blended family.
Among survivors are two sons, Brad McBride of Decatur and Jeffrey (Denise) Smitley of Vandalia, Mich.; six daughters, Dawn (Jack) Crandal of Churubusco; LaNae (John) Abnet of Berne; Cassandra (Blair) Ballard of Lakeland, Fla.; Linn (Carl) Fore, Mona (Joe) Smith, and Jody Garwood, all of Decatur; brother, Matthew McBride of Huntertown; three sisters, Georgie (Glen) Mygrant of Bluffton, Lana (Gene) Wolfe and Brenda (Mark) Frisch, both of Fort Wayne; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Floyd was preceded in death by a grandson, Randy Weiland, and a great-grandson, Daniel McBride.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, March 29, at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, and from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, at First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, also at the church, with Pastor Martha Lyon officiating.
Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the Praise Team of the First U.M. Church.
