MONROE—Bellmont Middle School continued an impressive season on the mat at the Adams Central Invitational over the weekend topping the field of 11 teams with 51 points.
The Braves took the gold on the strength of six first-place finishes, two seconds, four thirds, and a fourth place. The hosting Jets tied for second-place with Garrett as each school had 40 points total. Norwell was fourth with 19 points, Riverview fifth with 17, and South Adams in sixth place with 12 points. Southern Wells, Bluffton, West Jay, Heritage, and Paul Harding made up the rest of the field in descending order.
Bellmont's six winners included Colin Mills (100), Jon Becker (115), Grant Gutierrez (122), Anthony Busse (130), Bryce Baumgartner (160), and Braiden Shaw (170), while Jose Garcia (215) and Nick Winters (145) earned second-place honors. Matt Loughlin (138), Cole Coshow (105), Trevor Ortiz (95), and Jon Ruble (90) all were bronze medal winners.
Adams Central's side earned their fair share of the awards on Saturday as well netting five winners including Anthony Mosser (105), Brandon Schoeneman (250), Dylan Schumm (215), Kyle Brown (185), and Logan Macklin (90). Sami Oliver and Trey Brunner went 2-3 in the 100 pound bracket, while the other silver medal for the Jets went to Brett Funk at 170. The four third place medal winners for AC were Chandler Schumm (152), Nash Brunner (215), Jarren Gremaux (110), and Trey Brunner (110).
For South Adams there were no winners but three second-place finishers and a third place. Keegon Boxell (110), Isaiah Baumgartner (160), and Braxton Cole (90) were silver winners for the Stars with Brandon Wynn netting a bronze for the black and yellow.
Other winners included Jordan Gunion (152), Jaden Barker (145), Trevor Boyce (95), and Anthony Novy (85) from Garrett, Kade Zadylak (75) and Dustin Haiflich (110) from Norwell, and Parker Thompson from Riverview.
