Bellmont's contingent for Saturday's Fort Wayne Snider Wrestling Semistate was boosted from three to four this week when Union City's Connor Wyatt pulled out because of injury at 152 pounds, putting the Braves' Logan Neher back in the field. Neher earned alternate status as he wrestled back to fifth place at Jay.
"We had five guys wrestle back for fifth, and Neher gets to go, so I guess the alternate thing worked out for us," stated Bellmont coach Brent Faurote.
Neher, a 24-12 junior who placed fourth at the Al Smith Invitational at Mishawaka in December, will face regional champ Sebastian Eckert, a 30-5 Huntington North senior, in the preliminary round at the Memorial Coliseum Saturday.
If Neher manages to upset Eckert, he would face either Skylar Braden of Western, a 22-12 senior, or Tim Deters, a 30-7 Northridge senior.
Also in that lower bracket is defending state champ Isaiah Bradley of Muncie South. Conner Brumett, a 30-2 DeKalb senior, is in the top bracket, as is Chad Gaddis of Kokomo, a 32-5 junior.
There are six returning champs and five of them will be back in the same weight class at the Coliseum. Schuyler Phillips, ranked No. 1 at 120 pounds, moves up from 113 to 120 pounds this year. However, he lost last week to South Adams' unbeaten senior LJ Moser at Jay County.
