PORTLAND – Adams Central, Bellmont and South Adams girls’ swimming teams all advanced swimmers – both individual and relays – to Saturday’s sectional finals.
South Adams sophomore Cady Farlow will enter Saturday’s sectional finals with the top time in the 100 breaststroke and third-fastest time in the 100 freestyle. Teammate Kara DeLong had the second-best time in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.
Freshman Sidney Sprunger swam her way into the championship race of two events with a seventh place time in the 200 IM and fifth place in the 100 backstroke.
Adams Central freshman Taylor Clark finished 15th overall in the 100 butterfly in 1:18.13, and senior YuLeeza McCullough was 12th in the 500 freestyle in 6:26.94, and 15th in the 100 backstroke in 1:15.64. Both Clark and McCullough will swim in their respective consolation races on Saturday. As well, Adams Central’s 400 freestyle relay team of Chelsea Emenhiser, Kayla Stucky, Clark and McCullough finished eighth, and will swim in the championship race.
Bellmont junior Chloe Mock will enter Saturday with the second-best time in the 500 freestyle. After being seeded 10th in the 200 freestyle, Mock was eighth to make the event finals. Fellow junior Hannah Mendez dropped three seconds from her 200 freestyle time to finish in 13th. She also dropped about one second in her 100 backstroke, moving up one place from her seed time to finish 10th. Mendez will swim in the consolation finals of both events.
Diving will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, and swimming is set to start at 1 p.m.
