Adams Memorial Hospital trustees unanimously approved a resolution Wednesday night that will complete a sale of the former Adams County Health Services Complex (and former First State Bank building) in downtown Decatur to the City of Decatur for the price of $25,000.
Trustees earlier this year had put the property up for sale and the city was reportedly the only interested party. There is a stipulation on the part of the hospital that the buyer of the property will not use the location for any health-related activity and the city agreed to that point.
Decatur Mayor John Schultz said city officials do not have a specific plan for how the building will be used. City council representatives on Tuesday held a public forum for residents to express their view on how the property that housed the recently-razed building directly across the street from the complex should be developed.
The interior of the hospital building has been stripped of equipment and material. The sale covers the building itself along with a driving strip behind it where the one-time Adams Theatre was located.
