Ellen L. Springer-Thieme, 92, of Decatur, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Woodcrest Nursing Center.
She was born in Adams County on Monday, May 31, 1920, to the late Fred E. and Elsie M. (Franz) Fuelling.
Ellen married Forrest A. Springer on November 10, 1945; he passed away on May 24, 1984. On January 26, 2002, she married Harold E. Thieme; he survives in Decatur.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, where she served on the Ladies Aid and was a charter member of the Altar Guild. She was a homemaker and was also active in the Root Township Home Economics Club.
Among survivors are her daughter, Janet (Joseph) Azbell of Decatur; daughter, Becky Jo (Dennis) Zelt of Monroeville; stepdaughter, Karel Dailey of Fort Wayne; stepdaughter, Donna Daniels of Decatur; stepson, Duane (Kathy) Thieme of Fort Wayne; sister, Ruth Kunkel of Decatur; and sister, Dorothy DeLong of Decatur; four grandchildren, Adam (Christy) Zelt, Jennifer (Joshua) Scheumann, Jill (Mike) Grimm, and Joseph Azbell; eight stepgrandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Lynn Springer on January 8, 1973; and two brothers, Edgar and Fred Fuelling.
Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock, with Rev. Douglas Christian officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Flatrock.
