Bellmont's girls golf squad hosted seven teams for a match at Cross Creek Golf Course on Wednesday night and the result was storybook between the top three teams, all separated by one stroke.
The Squaws ended up on top, but by the slimmest of margins as they finished with a team score of 387. The Lady Chargers of Carroll and Lady Knights of Norwell finished tied for second just one stroke back at 388. Leo and Canterbury tied for fourth place with 403 strokes and Angola had a 405. Southern Wells and Blackhawk Christian brought golfers but not enough to qualify for the team scoring.
Jacey Bunner of Blackhawk Christian finished with the round-best score of 75, while Norwell's Megan Evans was second with a 79 and Angola's Hannah Van was third shooting an 84.
Bellmont earned the victory by committee as Corrinne Bussel led with a 91 for the Squaws, good enough for sixth overall. Macy Phegley and Julia Brewer both shot 98s and the final score taken was Rachel Klingensmith's 100 rounding out the scores.
Despite having the round's second best shooter in Evans, Norwell's bottom half struggled as Erika Thorton shot a 94, 15 shots off Evans' pace. Bailey Nodine shot a 101 and Maggie Lazzell a 114 rounding out the Knights' scoring.
For Carroll, Alyssa Fanning shot a 90 to lead the Chargers, Kierstin Murphy had a 94, Chloe Stumpf a 100, and Ali Richard finished with a 104.
Megan Lefebrre of Southern Wells shot a respectable round for Southern Wells with an 86.
