The 2012 Adams County Golf Championship took place over the weekend, beginning Saturday at the The Golf Club of the Limberlost in Geneva and finishing up Sunday at Cross Creek Golf Club in Decatur.
In the ladies division, defending champion Brenda Shifferly won her 13th Adams County trophy with rounds of 78 & 75 (153) over both courses.
"I scored really well over the past two days," Brenda stated afterwards. "It was a gratifying win."
Missy Ainsworth placed second shooting a combined 162 and Kristen Sprunger finished third at 165.
In the men's division, the winner was Bob Goulet shooting a 142 (-1) for the tournament. Birdies on 6, 7, 8, & 17 at Cross Creek on Sunday clinched the championship for him.
"I played really consistent throughout the tournament," Bob commented.
The runner up in the tournament was Dr. Mike Ainsworth, just one stroke behind at an even par (143).
"I chipped and putted well today," expressed Mike who shot the low round of the day with a 69 (-3) at Cross Creek.
Tied for third were a trio of golfers at 148 a piece; Lee Flueckiger, Luke Ainsworth, and Todd Kiser.
A.J. Kalver won the senior division for the men in a one hole playoff beating Roger Geyer. When both tied at 156 for the tournament, a par on the first extra hole sealed the deal for Kalver.
"I played consistent and am happy to pull out the win," he noted.
In the super senior men's division, John Geels won with a score of 165, while Jim Habegger was second at 168, and John Hackworth finished third with a 172.
Other winners in the tournament included Nate Kortenber, the First Flight winner with a score of 150, Mike Ashman the Second Flight winner with 164, and Andy Heim the winner of the Third Flight at 177.
There were 64 golfers who participated in this year's tournament. A special thanks to Terry Laurent, Cross Creek's owner/operator and Rod Ashman of Limberlost's course who prepared the two courses for play on Saturday and Sunday.
