On a January day when the normal high in the Decatur area is 33 degrees, the temperature soared to a top mark of 57 degrees at the city's weather station on Tuesday, bringing a preview of the springtime ahead.
The National Weather Service at Fort Wayne recorded a high of 56, five degrees under the record high of 61 set in 1989.
The Decatur weather station registered a low of 46 degrees early this morning — 13 degrees above the normal high! The normal low for January 31 is 18.
February kicks in today and, forecasters say, the unseasonable warmth should continue, although not quite to the extent of Tuesday. Forecasters are calling for highs between 49 (today) and 41 through Sunday.
The only precipitation mentioned in that time period is a 30 percent chance of rain and/or snow Saturday and Sunday.
