The “B” wing at Woodcrest Retirement Community is open for business as the Adams Extended Care Center is now located there. Patients moved from the former Extended Care Unit at Adams Memorial Hospital to the new Woodcrest location on December 30, according to hospital officials.
In addition to the new name, a hospital spokesman said there are several other changes associated with the Adams Extended Care Center, which is owned and operated by the Adams Memorial Hospital, a division of the Adams Health Network.
The facility now offers a HydroWorx therapy pool to speed the recovery of patients needing therapy, and therapy gym and equipment are available. Also new is a transitional apartment that allows an AECC patient to spend a night there in a situation that is intended to be similar to their private residence.
The Extended Care Center consists of 14 private suites and bathrooms and has its own private entrance and parking lot on the south side of the property.
The announcement said the facility works with patients who have orthopaedic and musculoskeletal injuries, joint replacements, fractures, stroke/CVA injuries, neurological disorders, amputations, dementia, multiple sclerosis, swallowing disorders, edema problems, or are post-cardiac cases.
According to the hospital spokesperson, the new center focuses on a team approach by offering a specialized team of rehab nurses and speech, physical, and occupational therapists seven days a week.
Rosina Thatcher is administrator of the facility. Sheryl Roth and Melinda Bertsch are the director and assistant director of nursing, respectively. Lindsi Hedington and Julie Tinnel are in charge of social services.
The facility staff may be contacted by calling 724-2145, ext. 3000. The fax number is 728-3806.
A public open house of the facility has been scheduled for 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, January 15.
