How's the new weight class switch, adding a heavier weight class for 2011-12 while taking out a middle class, working out after just one week of wrestling?
Well, in Saturday's Super Dual at Yorktown, Bellmont senior Isaac Birch, in the new 220-pound class, received three forfeits. South Adams went 5-0 at Homestead, but had to forfeit the 195-pound class in every meet. There were other forfeits at both sites in various meets at 182 and heavyweight.
"It's early, so we'll have to see how teams are able to fill another weight class above 180. It's not that easy," stated Bellmont coach Brent Faurote, who hated to see a middle weight disappear.
Considering the huge point spreads Bellmont has overcome in recent years in regional rematches with Yorktown, two points is absolutely nothing. The Braves lost by two Saturday. "Looking at the boxscore, there are definitely ways we can adust and improve," said Coach Faurote.
Count on it. Of course, Faurote is concerned about the sectional and a dangerous Adams Central team, which has 11 starters back. The Jets open at Leo on Thursday. We'll know more then.
