BERNE— It wasn't exactly a packed house at the Stardome on Wednesday night, but perhaps the fans will come out to watch if more games end up like the 55-52 victory over the Union City Indians did.
The score was 23-34 in favor of UC at the halftime break and it looked like the Indian faithful would get their revenge, but first-year SA coach Andy Brown put something in the water during his pep speech and the Berne boys came out swinging in the second half.
The Starfires outscored Union City 11-2 in the third quarter to go into the final frame down just two, 34-36.
Senior guard Scott Hoeppner, who had just three points in the first half, came up big for his team in the second half. Hoeppner hit four more three pointers in the second half including two in a row to start the fourth quarter en route to posting a team-high 19 points. The senior leader also led the team with seven rebounds and three assists.
The Starfires will take the court again next Tuesday when they travel to Muncie Burris with a JV start time of 6 p.m.
