The 2011 Lunch Buddy of the Year Award from the Fort Wayne regional office of Big Brothers/Big Sisters has been awarded to Dan Kintz of Decatur, a Big Brother in Adams County since 1996.
An announcement from the BB/BS staff says Kintz was honored for his years of volunteer service and was selected from more than 1,800 such people in 13 northeastern Indiana counties.
This is the second high BB/BS honor that Kintz has received: the first was in 2000 when he was named Big Brother of the Year for Indiana.
Kintz has been having lunch with his Little Brother, Jason, in Decatur since 2007 at Northwest Elementary School. The announcement says that Kintz's help "has changed Jason's life. His guidance and friendship is a foundation for the growth Jason has demonstrated in the past years.
"Although Jason has always been a bright student, his teachers are impressed by the social strides he has made within the school environment, especially with his classroom peers."
The BB/BS statement says Dan and Jason meet each week during the school year to have lunch and talk about many "guy things," such as "basketball, Legos, and The History Channel."
