Jerry L. "J.T." Tharp Sr., 72, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Englewood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne.
He was born on March 22, 1939, in Ridgeville, Indiana, to Roe and Frances Wooters Tharp.
He married Mariana M. Jauregui on June 29, 1957.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mariana Tharp of Decatur; a son, Jerry L. "Jake" Tharp Jr. of Decatur; three daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Victoria) Girard, Mrs. Gary (Christina) Seitz, and Theresa Bubp, all of Decatur; two brothers, Jack Tharp (and wife Nora) of Union City, Indiana, and Bill Tharp (and wife Janet) of Decatur; one sister, Joyce Stewart of Ridgeville; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Jerry L. Tharp III, and a brother, Rex Tharp.
Jerry was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur and its Holy Name Society.
He retired after 31 years of service with B.F. Goodrich.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 8, from 4-8 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, Decatur, with reciting of the Holy Rosary at 3:30 p.m.
A 9:20 a.m. prayer service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011, in Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father David Voors officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur.
