Robert R. Malone, 86, of Decatur, passed away at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at his son’s residence.
Bob was born on October 12, 1925, in Sullivan, Indiana, to William and Fayola (Grimes) Malone.
On January 30, 1949, he married Sarah L. Downs. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2002.
Bob was a life insurance salesman for Western Southern Insurance.
He served in World War II in the United States Army.
He was a member of American Legion Post 43 in Decatur and a past commander of that post.
He also was a 2000 Hall of Fame inductee for the United States Bowling Congress.
Survivors are a son, Barry (Cindi) Malone of Decatur; a daughter-in-law, Carol Malone of Decatur; a brother, Paul Malone of Warrenton, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert L. and David P. Malone, and a brother, William Malone.
Calling is from 5-8 p.m. Friday, October 14, 2011, and one hour prior to services at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Decatur Cemetery, with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 43's color guard.
