DeWayne L. Beer, 74, of rural Berne, a former superintendent of the Adams County Highway Department, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital.
He was born on June 22, 1937, in Adams County. His parents were the late Marcella Beer Meshberger and his stepfather, the late Chris Meshberger.
He married Alice Stauffer on July 4, 1957, in Berne; she survives.
DeWayne was a retired lifetime farmer, a former employee of the county highway department for 25 years, and a former truck driver for Moser Trucking.
He was a veteran, a member of the Indiana National Guard unit based in Bluffton, and a member of American Legion Post 468 in Berne.
His special interests were hunting, fishing, and tractor pulling.
He is also survived by one son, Charles Beer (and wife Mona) of Berne; two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Sandra) Affolder of Geneva and Mrs. Timothy (Ann) Geimer of Decatur; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three stepbrothers, Robert Meshberger of Tucson, Arizona; Lester Meshberger of Rockford, Illinois; and Don Meshberger of Bluffton.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 28, at 10:30 a.m. in Yager-Kirchhofer Funeral Home, Berne, with Pastor Joe Gerkin officiating. Graveside rites will be given by Legion Post 468 of Berne.
Visitation at the funeral home is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday.
Burial will be in MRE Cemetery, rural Berne.
