David L. Bailey, 66, of rural Decatur, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
David was born in Decatur on May 1, 1945, to Robert L. and Donna B. (Landrum) Bailey, who are deceased.
On August 11, 1988, he married Carol A. (Rumschlag) Brandenburg.
David attended St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur.
He retired from Bunge North America, formerly Central Soya, in 2007 after 37 years.
He was a past member of the Central Soya Quarter Century Club and a member of the Rollin’ Thunder Car Club and the American Quarter Horse Association, and an avid hot rod and classic car enthusiast who loved working on his 1952 Ford “Frog” truck and his 1966 Chevelle.
He is survived by his wife, Carol A. Bailey of Decatur; a daughter, Danielle R. Bailey of Decatur; two sisters, Norma Jean (Larry) Wilson of Celina, Ohio, and Nancy Sidle of Decatur; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday, September 23, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur.
A 9:20 a.m. prayer service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at the funeral home, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, with Father David Voors officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Decatur.
Memorials are to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, or to the donor’s choice.
