Sandra Sue “Sandy” Butcher, 71, of Decatur, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at her residence.
She was born on July 7, 1940, in Adams County to Anthony and J. Edna (Miller) Gase.
She married Robert Eugene Butcher on October 27, 1956; he survives in Decatur.
She is also survived by two sons, Eugene “Gene” (Debra) Butcher and Verlin “Butch” (Anne) Butcher, both of Decatur; three daughters, Karen (Henry Lowan) Butcher of San Francisco, California, and Nancy (Tobin) Ray and Melissa (Chris) Brite, both of Decatur; four brothers, Patrick Gase of Decatur, Maurice “Mo” Gase of New Mexico, Vincent “Vinnie” Gase of California, and Robert “Bob” Gase of Decatur; three sisters, Barbara Meyer of Fort Wayne, Marjorie Sardella of Decatur, and Marilyn Spieth of California; 14 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Sandy was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Decatur, where she was a children’s Sunday School teacher for many years.
She worked as a clerk for Habegger Schafer Co. and True Value (formerly Coast to Coast).
She also was a part of the Adams County Schricker Club members’ wives who hosted a coffee hour for Ethel Kennedy in 1968.
Visitation is 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Haggard-Sefton and Hirschy Funeral Home in Decatur.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, in St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, with calling one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be The Reverend Michael Heinbaugh.
Burial will take place in Decatur Cemetery.
