SPENCERVILLE, OHIO—A strong finish by the South Adams boys cross country team at the Spencerville Invitational last Saturday including a one-two finish by Evan Liechty and Brody Shane helped South Adams claim the team championship with just 56 points out of 18 teams.
Liechty captured first place honors with his time of 16:44 while Shane was just 10 seconds after Liechty in second place. Joel Hawbaker ran a strong 17:46 race to earn eighth place overall while Simon Sprunger was 13th in 17:54. The fifth Starfire scorer was Cody Sprunger who was a respectable 32nd in 18:50.
The 56 points for South Adams easily beat Van Buren with 82 while Elmwood had 106. Other schools were Shawnee 115, St. Mary's Memorial 144, Anna 150, Ottawa-Glandorf 176, New Haven 201, Benjamin Logan 238, Lima Central Catholic 247, Wayne Trace 259, Allen East 292, Indian Lake 380, Elida 395, Paulding 401, and Kenton 409. Lima Senior and Bath both had incomplete teams.
All teams except for South Adams and New Haven were from Ohio.
Other South Adams runners included Daniel Velasco, 41st in 19:01; Andrew Steffen, 42nd in 19:02; Clayton Rhoades, 51st in 19:23; Mark Smith, 60th in 19:44; Boaz Marbach, 68th in 19:59; Brett Affolder, 78th in 20:16; Sawyer Miller, 79th in 20:17; Charlie Hirschy, 106th in 21:11; Cole Litwiller, 124th in 21:49; and Jacob Werst, 173rd in 25:37.
