Ermil D. Shifferly, 89, a longtime resident of rural Monroe who lived the last two years at Woodcrest Retirement Community, died at 10:40 p.m. Thursday at Adams Memorial Hospital.
He married Mary M. Burger on April 3, 1943; she passed away on April 20, 2005.
He retired in 1987 from the CTS Corp. at Berne with 22 years of service.
He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II, serving in France and central Europe.
Surviving are one son, Duane D. Shifferly (and wife Jackie) of Monroe; one daughter, Mrs. Allen (Arlene K.) Steffen of Bluffton; one sister, Mildred Wagoner of Columbia City; four grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eldred V. Shifferly, and a sister, Doris McDermott.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Decatur Church of God, with burial in Decatur Cemetery, with military graveside services by the color guard from American Legion Post 43 in Decatur.
Visiting hours are 4-8 p.m. Monday in Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, and 10-11 a.m. Tuesday in the church.
