Julia W. Banta, 89, of Geneva, passed away at 4:10 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at Adams Memorial Hospital in Decatur.
She was born on Friday, February 10, 1922, in Portland to LeFinley Hiles and Shirley Maud Teagle Farris.
Mrs. Banta was a graduate of Portland High School.
She was a beautician for 40 years and had worked at Judy's Beauty Shop in Geneva. She was a member of the Canasta Club, the Women's Golf League, and the United Methodist Women. She also enjoyed knitting.
She attended First United Methodist Church in Geneva.
She married Robert "Malcolm" Banta on February 27, 1948, in Geneva. He passed away on September 8, 1987.
Survivors include two sons, Malcolm J. Banta (and wife Betty Jo) of Rotonda West, Florida, and G. Mark Banta of Geneva; one sister, Mrs. Jay (Connie) Oberlander of North Port, Florida; two grandchildren, Dawn Michelle Knezic of Bridgman, Michigan, and Travis Malcolm Banta of Naples, Florida; and one great-grandchild, Addison Nicole Banta of Naples.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Rolland Farris and Lawrence Farris, and a sister, Susie Hurst.
Arrangements are being handled by Downing and Glancy Funeral Home, 100 N. Washington St., Geneva, where family and friends may gather to share and remember from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 4, 2011.
A service to celebrate Julia's life will be held at Downing and Glancy Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2011, with Pastor Barry McCun officiating.
Interment will be at West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
Memorials are to First United Methodist Church in Geneva.
